When I was expecting our first little girl I enjoyed creating felt animals, clouds, rainbows and more. Some of them I used for the crib mobile and others just to decorate her nursery. It was my first time creating anything with felt and I was surprised by how easy it was! At that time I was also working very hard starting my company Design My Party Studio and the woodland animals theme was a real trend. That brought me to the idea of creating some Felt Woodland Animals patterns myself based on my own illustrations. Today I’m happy to share them with you! I hope you will be using them for your baby’s nursery too! Or maybe as a cute gift for a mom-to-be! We also included the cute gift tag as free download!
If this is your first time doing anything with felt, no worries! It’s really simple. The free pattern comes with step by step instructions and even some basic stitches, so you can’t go wrong 🙂
- Some craft felt (colors are specified in the PDF pattern instructions files)
- Embroidery threads (colors are specified in the PDF pattern instructions files)
- Embroidery needle(s)
- Straight pins
- Polyester stuffing
To create your own felt woodland animals follow the exact steps described in the PDF patterns but in short these are the instructions:
Step 1: Download the PDF patterns and instructions from our FREE printable library
Step 2: Print the PDF pattern
Step 3: Pin the paper pieces to the felt and cut out
Step 4: Repeat for eyes, nose, ears etc (as described in the pattern)
Step 5: Then start ‘building’ your animal by stitching the cut outs to the correct places (described for each animal in its PDF pattern)
Step 6: Align front and back body pieces and attach with a blanket stitch till you are around 1″ away from the starting point and pause to insert stuffing. When done, tie off and hide your thread inside the body.
Step 7: If it’s a gift print the gift tag and attach to your animal!
